Children will enjoy a free event that includes face painting, bounce houses, video games, free popcorn, cotton candy and cupcakes! Radio Disney will also be present with music, games and famous Disney characters. The first 100 children to arrive will receive free surprise giveaways. Among other exciting features of this event are: K9 demonstrations by the Police Department, the Growing up Green Eco musical and interactive storytelling show by Dean of Green from Redland Tropical Gardens, and even a fun master chef demonstration especially made for kids.
The winners of the Centennial Student Contests on writing, art and photography will be announced and cash prizes will be awarded. Parents and students can enjoy an exhibit of the photography and poster competitions, which were based on Homestead’s history, and some of the winning essays will also be on display.
Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-McCormick, who is organizing this event along with the Homestead Centennial Steering Committee, said she is looking forward to this exciting family day in which children will be the focus.
“We want to make sure the community comes out to enjoy this free family festival that will offer so many attractions to our children,” said Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick. “This day will be for our young students so that they too can celebrate and learn about our City’s rich history.”
Various services for children and families will also be on site. The Justice In Motion (JIM) Mobile Unit will be at the event conducting the Free Child Fingerprinting Program, which consists of issuing a fingerprint card to parents / legal custodians for safekeeping to be used in the event that identification is required. Also the Healthy Matthew Dental Bus will be giving away tooth brushes and other dental hygiene products as well as demonstrating how to care properly for children’s dental health. Other non-profit organizations will also be at the event offering important services to the community.
