MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO BEGIN AERIAL SPRAYING FOR MOSQUITOES
The Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department's Mosquito Control Section will perform aerial spraying for mosquitoes beginning Wednesday or Thursday evening, weather permitting. The purpose of this aerial spraying is to reduce the infestation of mosquitoes within populated areas where mosquito counts have exceeded existing standards, and the number of complaints has increased. The areas that will be sprayed are as follows:
Homestead/Florida City - From SW 191 Ave to SW 137 Ave, between SW 312 St to SW 360 St.
Redlands - SW 232 St to SW 400 St, between SW 192 Ave to SW 227 Ave.
East of US1 - From Rickenbacker Causeway to SW 248 St.
Residents are advised that aircraft will be flying as low as 150 feet to spray over the areas listed above. Beekeepers are asked to keep their bees covered during the spraying operations in their particular area. Individuals with known allergic reactions should remain indoors.
Miami-Dade residents can help reduce the nuisance caused by mosquitoes by remembering the "five Ds:"
Dusk and Dawn-avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are most active.
Dress-wear long, loose, light-colored clothing that covers the skin.
DEET-use mosquito repellants that contain DEET
Drainage-eliminate standing water around the home in places such as buckets, cans, old tires, and plant containers.
Residents who have questions about the aerial spraying, or complaints about mosquitoes, can call the County's Answer Center at 3-1-1.
