Will Mayor Bateman Recruit PBA Members In Obtaining "Strong Mayor" Petitions?
Posted on 08:18 by Unknown
A series of events are leading many to speculate on Mayor Bateman's push for a "strong mayor" form of city government. The entire Jim H episode of sending the council unsigned and anonymous allegations against the current City Manager is one example of the lengths that the "strong Mayor" proponents will go to in achieving this power grab.
Another example is the unification of a group of city residents and business people who are against the idea of a strong mayor style of government. The support for the idea has united many former opponents to band together and oppose the idea in the public forum.
Undaunted will the Mayor call upon the PBA to help him get petition signatures to put this terrible idea on the upcoming ballot? It appears that is indeed possible.
There are unconfirmed reports that a Community Policing/Neighborhood Crimewatch meeting turned into an information sharing session about the benefits of a "strong mayor" style of government. This may have occurred at the subdivision known as Granada Estates.
