Watchcat Report: Homestead Main Street Lease $1 Per Year and Taxpayers Pay Utilities

Posted on 11:28 by Unknown

What is it with this dollar a year business? Never mind, they honored Councilwoman Waldman, we get it now.

Why is Dennis Maytan handling this contract? The last we knew he cut grass and lined fields according to some sources.

Watchcat Report: Town Hall Museum Gets 73.6% Increase In Funds

Posted on 11:21 by Unknown

From $14,400 to $25,000 annually. Add in the renovations that seem to occur every four or five years running into the high six figures and one has to ask does this make any sense?

The CRA annually paid the Historic Town Hall Museum $14,400. Now it is $25,000.

Watchcat Report: Homestead Main Street President Got $25,000 In CRA Funds

Posted on 11:05 by Unknown

Robert Barmes by all accounts is a skilled architect and has done much to try and improve Homestead. Through a corporation called SR2 Mr. Barnes applied for and was granted $25,000 to improve a property that is/was being considered for a temporary City Hall solution. Robert Barnes is also the President of Homestead Main Street.

Has anybody in Homestead heard of a conflict of interest? Didn't Homestead Main Street administer the facade improvement funds a while ago? The City pays to improve a building prior to a potential lease?

Watchcat Report: Bad Santa, Dennis Maytan Drops $60,240 On Xmas Decorations

Posted on 10:37 by Unknown

          $60,240.00 as a recurring expense?

Can't we buy the decorations, store them and have our IBEW crews from HES put them up or is the lunacy of this beyond the business acumen of our city leaders? Wait don't answer that.

As you can see they even spread it out over two years taking 2012 surplus funds as well as new fiscal year two week old funds to complete the deal. Money is burning a hole in the council's proverbial pockets.

Looks Like the Eastside Will Get a New Polling Place, err... ALF Also

Posted on 13:15 by Unknown

 Jacob and Helen Shaham
The only candidates allowed to place signage on the Palace Gardens Facility.

The City of Homestead Council Agenda has an item for an ALF, assisted living facility, to be built on the empty lot adjacent to the Oasis Publix and across Campbell Drive from Homestead Hospital. The developer is Professional Care I, Inc., owned by Helen and Jacob Shaham.  Parcel to be developed is in red along with the one adjoining on the west.

As is their right the owners favor certain candidates over others. However, operating a facility where dozens of votes may have been cast housing elderly and possibly disabled and seems to restrict the access of other candidates. Again, is that fair?

Watchcat Report: Money Must Be Growing On Trees In Homestead

Posted on 10:36 by Unknown

The City Council, which is the legislative body in Homestead is spending money at a very fast clip. So fast that the Watchcat has had to recruit some special help to try and keep up. The insider deals have also been fast and furious. Stay here in the next couple of days as Watchcat Jr. makes an appearance.

Is It Fair? Address Search Turns Up Dozens of Voters, Yet Contributions Given to Just Three, Sign Access to Just Two

The Palace Gardens

Enter any address into the following website. It will tell you who voted from that address.
http://www.politicalstrategies.com/VoterGeoSearch.aspx

Polling place: A polling place or polling station is where voters cast their ballots in elections. Since elections generally take place over a one- or two-day span on a periodic basis, often annual or longer, polling places are often located in facilities used for other purposes, such as schools, churches, sports halls, local government offices, or even private homes, and will each serve a similar number of people. The area may be known as a ward, precinct, polling district or constituency.

The facility is owned by Helen and Jacob Shaham who allowed Steve Bateman and Judy Waldman only to place campaign signs on the property. Bateman's sign was placed in the illegally high frame after the photo was taken.

The facility operators also donated $1,000 to Steve Bateman, Judy Waldman and Alex Andrickson.
